About Rent Local
Rent Local started as a simple idea to solve a problem almost everyone runs into.
For me, it was working on home projects and flipping houses. I’d forget to bring something to a job, end up buying another one, and before long I’d have 12 extension cords laying around. Some get used. Some don’t. Some eventually get tossed.
How many times have you said, “I only need this once,” or “I wouldn’t have bought this if I could have tried it first”?
That’s the real problem.
The Problem
Today the solution we’re constantly fed is simple: buy more stuff.
Marketing follows you everywhere. Look up a ladder one time and suddenly every app you open is showing you ladders. It gets old fast.
Meanwhile, garages are full. Storage units are full. People are selling quality items for pennies on the dollar or letting them collect dust.
The truth is, enough people already own the tools and equipment we all need from time to time. They just aren’t being shared efficiently.
The Gap in the Market
Yes, rentals already exist.
Go to a big box store or a traditional rental company and by the time you see the fees, deposits, policies, and inconvenience, it often doesn’t feel worth it.
On the other side, trying to rent something yourself means dealing with constant “Is this available?” messages, no-shows, and tire kickers. It turns into a side business most people don’t want to manage.
There had to be a better middle ground.
How Rent Local Works
Rent Local bridges that gap.
We allow people to store approved items for free in our partnered storage facilities. We carefully approve items to ensure everything is working, reliable, and quality. Item owners can still reserve their items for free or remove the item entirely with short notice.
We handle:
- Storage
- Scheduling
- Check-in and check-out
- Customer communication
- Payments
Item owners earn income without running their own mini rental business.
Renters get access to community-sourced equipment in one centralized place — at fair, affordable prices.
We may require reasonable security deposits on certain items to protect everyone involved, but the goal is always simple: professional process, fair treatment, and common sense.
Our Mission
We want to protect both listers and renters while bringing back something that feels like it’s missing — community trust.
There’s no reason our hard-earned money has to keep flowing only to big box stores when we can support each other locally.
When I started renting out my compact tractor, I saw the potential immediately. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
So here we are.
An awesome team.
Quality equipment.
Fair pricing.
Community first.
Rent Local isn’t about buying more.
It’s about using what we already have — better.
